Joy Division

Off for another day in the library. At least it's raining this time! My journalism degree is officially over, just two creative writing deadlines to go and I'll no longer be a student. Pretty scary!

In other news I've been invited to an interview for a paid internship starting in September which I really really hope I get! So fingers crossed for that one. Perhaps I'll go for some drinks tonight to celebrate getting this far - any excuse.

Sunday To Do List

Up super early to check out a local car boot sale before serving drinks to morons for 4 hours. Oh what a Sunday! This evening I'm dying my hair and watching the new American Pie movie for a review so depending on how all that goes I might have something positive to say later on.

Boring outfit today, and excuse the morning hair. Going to have to tie it up at work and it looks cold so I'll probably chuck a beanie on because I'm too lazy to sort it out.

Lazy Sunday

It's my first day off since Monday yet I woke up naturally at 9.30. Why does that happen? Instead of lying in bed for hours I decided to be partially productive and wrote up a terrifying list of all my final deadlines: what needs to be done, when they're due, etc...

Only 3 weeks left of university. It's fair to say I'm scared now. I'm about to spend the day writing a 2000 word essay on journalism ethics, so excuse me for being boring, but such is my life..

Some exciting things have happened this week though, so hold tight and I'll be back with some fun posts as soon as my workload has decreased.

Another Wednesday To Do List

Yeah I'm being one of those people who sit in Starbucks on their MacBook, sipping a chai latte and pretending they're doing something really important. Except I intend to actually do something important this time. Fed up of trying to work from my bedroom, I'm off to scrounge wifi and eat muffins and pray they bring some inspiration.

Happy Thursday

Hi!
It's my first day off in so long and although I do have a massive backlog of coursework to be getting on with, that can do itself today.

I woke up early despite really wanting a lie-in, but that meant I could get all my editing work out of the way and now I'm off out to enjoy the sun!

First stop is Nero for a coffee and a catchup with Max, and then I want to browse some charity shops, preferably outside of Kingston, but probably not.

Hopefully it will be a success and later tonight I can post about all my beautiful new bargains!

What I'm wearing:

Cropped vest top - ASOS; Waist belt - Primark; Watch - Casio

Asymmetric chiffon skirt - Asda; Spike bangle - Forever 21

Not sure why I look so timid today, but it's my last busy day in 9 weeks! A 3 week break is exactly what I need right now. In all likelihood I will only do 3 or 4 of these things today, but it's good to aim high, right?

AWOL

I know I've been pretty lax with this the past few weeks, but I've had so much on juggling two jobs, five university modules and a social life. Plus it's been super sunny in Kingston and I'm sure you'll understand that I much prefer beer gardens to bedroom blogging.

Tonight I'm at my Auntie's house near Tadley. We're driving home tomorrow for mother's day weekend and my mama doesn't know I'm coming so that will be cute. I'm considering the next three days as a bit of time off!

This is how I've mostly spent my spare minutes. In the past week or so I've had 5 - yes, five - celebratory Wagamama's to mark the end of an assignment. And then it's been straight back to the press room to start some more!

So from today onwards I will be doing my best to keep on top of this! But before I go, take a minute to check out Charlotte King's blog: Charlotte's Web - a fabulous photographer from my hometown.

I'm No Poet.

Poetry is something which seems so beautiful to me. The imagery and the emotion and the language is so beautiful when fashioned by the right poet. Sadly that poet just is not me!

Not and then a thought will cross my mind, and I'll write it down. When I look back it's the kind of thing which would fit perfectly into a poem, but I'm just totally incapable of writing them well.

However this term I had a module clash, meaning I had to switch Contemporary British Fiction to 20th Century Poetry (no way was I swapping Arts & Entertainment Journalism for sport, politics or business) and it's fair to say I've been thrown in at the deep end.

Terrified to tell my lecturer my situation at the risk of offending him, I am battling onwards and this week my assignment is to write a poem inspired by a piece of art.

I've chosen this photograph, which isn't famous, or even credited, but inspired so much in me - more so than any generic painting or sculpture. The mood, history, memories and hues of the photo reflect that of the whole room, despite only showing a tiny section of it. I'm not sure what angle I'm going to take yet, but perhaps I'll post it up here when I'm done!

(This is more like a diary entry than an interesting blog post but I'm bored and stressing about this piece, sorry!)

GO ME!

As I've mentioned many a time, I've been writing freelance for BBM Live Magazine since completing a two week internship with them in December last year.

Well this week, after working super hard to complete a few difference pieces for them, including a review of a techno/house album - literally the opposite of what I am into/knowledgable about - I have been offered the position of News Editor for their site.

I feel super lucky to have this kind of a title before I've even graduated and, despite being in university 5 days a week, working on a bar three nights a week and having been landed with the role of Entertainments Editor of the University newspaper meaning that there aren't even enough hours in the day for me to have a second to myself, I am so excited to get involved in editing work for BBM!

Please take a minute to check out the site on the link above, and follow us on Twitter HERE <3.

Good Morning!

Yesterday I enjoyed a lovely Valentine's Day with my boy and, despite a lot of red wine, I've still managed to have a productive Wednesday!

Jeans: Baxter at Topshop, Top: Zara

Having dragged myself out of bed I then attended all my lectures, completed my first ever set of hand washing (despite having lived alone for 3 years - disgraceful, I know!) and applied to a few post-grad jobs.

Probably doesn't sound that productive but it feels it! I've been worrying for ages about what I'm going to do when I graduate, and now even applying for 3 jobs feels good.

I've also been doing a lot of work for BBM Live this week. Check out my piece on Heidi Mottram's eco-leather bags HERE <3.

Back to School

As I mentioned before, I'm about to embark on my final semester at University and, as well as my new bedroom layout, I obviously had to stock up on new stationery!
I'm absolutely obsessed with stationery, and the sensation of writing on the first page of a new notebook is up there as one of the best feelings I can think of. Geek, I know.
As well as my work environment, pretty new pens and notebooks definitely inspire me to work well. So here are just some of the new bits and pieces I've purchased in an attempt to get the ball rolling for a motivated and hard working final semester!

I picked up the two top notebooks in the Accessorize sale for £3.60 each. My creative writing modules are quite heavy in, well, writing, surprisingly enough! And these books were thick enough whilst still looking pretty!

Paperchase are famous for their gorgeous and quirky stationery. This gel pen is from their "Babushka" range and cost only £1.50!

For my journalism modules I need smaller pads which I can carry around with me for when I need to and jot down quite notes. A Moleskine is the obvious choice for any writer and, despite costing £10.99, I like to treat myself to a fresh one every now and then.
The final notebook I chose was also from Paperchase. Their "Birdcages" range has now been discontinued, but I picked up this pad, along with a matching book of sticky notes, for a bargain price in their sale!
